Commissions

Fans can be designed and made to order for functions, presentations and commemorative occasions. The Fan Museum has undertaken over thirty previous special commissions from various public and private organisations for fans to commemorate special events.

Our clients include Lloyds of London, The Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, l'Opera de Paris, the cercle de l'Eventail, Lloyds Bank, Goldman Sachs, the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum, The Worshipful Company of Farriers and many more.

Below are some examples of these original designs. Others can be seen at The Fan Museum. Many of these limited edition fans are available for purchase in the Museum Shop or by special request. We also craft exclusive "one off" fans which are unique family heirlooms. Contact us for additional information.

Nelson's Fan

Black bamboo fan with paper leaf printed with assorted maritime flags and inscribed 'The New Nelson Fan'. Made to celebrate the bicentenary of the death of Admiral Lord Nelson. 2005.

Paris Opera

A paper and bamboo fan for the sponsors of the Paris Opera House. Presented to ladies attending a special production of "The Barber of Seville" in June 1992.

Musée de la Mode

A fan signed PETER KENT, commissioned by the Cercle de l'Eventail. The fan was sold at the Musée de la Mode et du Costume in Paris on redish sticks, and at The Fan Museum on black bamboo sticks. The reverse shows a map locating the Palais Galliera. 1994/1995

Goldman Sachs

Dinner fan specially commissioned by Goldman Sachs to commemorate the European Tour of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, 1997.

Flowers

A private commision for a marriage; painted silk leaf by CHARLES SUMMERS, mounted on an 18th century monture. July 1999.

A Royal Fan (commemorative)

Commemorative fan for the marriage of Prince Andrew and Miss Sarah Ferguson on 23 July 1986. This fan is one of a limited edition of 100, issued by Fans Ltd. Plain ivory sticks and guards carved with a thistle motif and signed by JOHN BROOKER. The leaf, printed on hand-made paper by Dawes Press Ltd, is after an original painting byDAVID WALKER and signed and dated by him. Each fan is numbered.

The Fishmongers' Fan (commissioned)

A bamboo and paper fan commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, to present to ladies at special functions. The leaf shows a view of the River Thames from a painting by WILLIAM JAMES, and shows old London Bridge and Fishmonger's Hall. The black bamboo sticks are ornamented with a coral coloured ribbon and one guard bears a small mother of pearl dolphin/seahorse. 1995

Fan Commissioned by Waddesdon Manor

For sale in their shop. Burgundy coloured bamboo sticks and paper leaf. The leaf is an enlarged detail from a French fan design circa 1758/59 in The Rothschild Collection, showing Louis XV at an informal dinner party at Versailles. 1997.

Lloyds Bank Commemorative Fan

Printed paper and bamboo fan commissioned to commemorate 100 years of Banking with Lloyds. 1997.

The Wimbledon Fan (commemorative)

A bamboo and paper fan made to commemorate the 100th Wimbledon Ladies Championship. Limited edition of 1,000 and sold exclusively at The Fan Museum and The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum. After a design by M. MALLOWS.

Fixed Fan

A cardboard fan based on an Elizabethan design. Produced for the Richmond Hill Hotel for a dinner held to celebrate the completion of major renovations. A similar design was used as a press invitation to "Le Louvre des Antiquaires" in Paris and a soiree at Lambeth Palace.

One-off Fan

Mother of pearl fan with gold double "L" of Lloyds on the right guardstick. The paper leaf is an original water colour and gouache painting by BARBARA DORF, and features the coat of arms of Lloyds of London. The rivet is set with an amethyst on either side. Commissioned by Lloyds on the occasion of their Tercentenary celebrations 1688-1988.

Eagle Star Insurance Company

Wooden fan with paper leaf decorated with a mask and further ornamented by hand with lace, sequins and logo of the Eagle Star Insurance Company. Turquoise rivet. Eagle Star Dinner 11 May 1988.

Royal Mail

Fan designed for the Post Office for presentation to "Special Guests". After a design by BARBARA HUXLEY.

R.O.A dinner

Fan commissioned for an R.O.A dinner in Bournemouth.

One-off fan

Greenwich Fan (Mark 1)

A paper and bamboo fan, depicting the Cutty Sark and the the historic buildings of Greenwich. Leaf by PETER KENT.
