There are no books on the subject. Fan-making classes take place at The Fan Museum when no more than six people at a time are guaranteed to make at least 2 fans in the afternoon. It is not possible to give any verbal or emailed explanations.     Please contact Malcolm Cox at mcox@connect.ie or visit www.connect.ie/users/mcox For the leaf remember that any highly glossed paper will "crack" when you pleat it.

It is not museum practice to give valuations. However free valuations may be obtained from most good auctioneers in London (Christie's South Kensington, 85 Old Brompton Road, London SW7 3LD. Tel: 020 7581 7611). In the USA please contact the Fan Association of North America (FANA).     It is impossible to assess fan from an amateur description without some image. Furthermore even a good photograph will not tell if a fan for example is made of ivory, bone or plastic. The curatorial staff at The Fan Museum is happy to advise as to date and provenance of fans by appointment only.
