On the afternoon of Saturday June 20th 2026, The Fan Museum co-hosted an event with the Greenwich Society.
The afternoon began with a complimentary glass of wine and some nibbles in the Yellow Room. This was followed by a tour of the current Monarchy exhibition of Royal Fans with a talk from Mary Kitson, our Consultant Curator. The group then descended to the Orangery for a delightful 30 minute concert given by 2 members of the Waldstein Trio and a singer. The music ranged between classical and jazz and the performers, ex Royal Academy of Music students who live locally and have launched on a professional career, played and sang with great verve.
The afternoon culminated with an Antiques Road Show type event hosted by Jonathan Atkins, the proprietor of Minerva Antiques in Royal Hill. A variety of items including a Chinese porcelain pig, an 18th century flintlock pistol, a Japanese bowl , an engraved gold-lidded box (possibly for holding cards or snuff), and an early edition of Trollope’s Barchester Novels were among the items discussed and valued.
It was a happy event and we were glad that our newest member of staff, Hedvig Kovacs, the Collections Assistant, was able to help run the afternoon.
