Product Promotion in the Jazz Age

“In 1978 Brighton Museum purchased an unusual group of nineteen 20th-century fans from the important Art Deco collections of the designer Martin Battersby. This group was complemented by a generous donation, in 1993, of twenty-seven more paper fans, given by Richard Jordan in memory of Peter Douglas. Together these fans, dating from 1900 to 1930, exhibit a broad range of designs by many of the finest graphic artists working in Paris and give a unique insight into the advertising and promotion of the leisure industry and luxury retail products of the time.”
